Aegean Festival 2018: The Winter Edition

From December 10th to December 13th, on Patmos Island, in the specially designed Patmos Cultural Center, the audience will be able to watch free movies, documentaries and short films in the first winter edition of AegeanFF.

Within the framework of the Aegean Film Festival, it has always been to inform and educate the island’s permanent residents about the environment, technology, innovation and culture, key areas for constructive and sustainable development as well as strengthening the new of the Aegean with ideas and solutions for the future. This year‘s first edition of the Winter Festival will include a large part of the summer program, the best films from the four short programs of the Aegean and a new special tribute to selected documentaries, speeches and parallel actions for the students.

The ECHOES – VOICES OF TOMORROW special focus, focuses on research and innovation and includes the screening of 6 documentaries, including themes such as solar energy, the internet, student ingenuity and their effort to change the world, exploring space and the creation of new ideas.

In addition, ECHOES – VOICES OF TOMORROW will organize a panel on innovation and new ideas, how they can provide solutions to problems, create jobs in the remote Aegean islands, and protect the environment. The panel will include invited scientists, local actors, international researchers and directors through videoconference. This will enable Patmos audiences to ask questions and discuss with the creators some of the most important issues on the island.

This year, for the second time in its history, the Aegean Film Festival hosts the special unity on “ECHOES – VOICES OF TOMORROW”. This module is implemented under the Operational Program “Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning” and is co-funded by the European Union (European Social Fund) and national resources. It is essentially the Operational Program of the NSRF dedicated to education and employment.

Some of the objectives of the effort include:

In developing and exploiting the capabilities of the country’s human resources,

Improving the quality of education, lifelong learning, awareness raising for environmental education,

Linking education to the labor market and

Strengthening social cohesion and social inclusion of vulnerable social groups (EKO). The screening of the tribute films is free to the public and access for the disabled is ensured.

In addition, COSMOTE TV Day will present three new documentaries on COSMOTE TV production as well as two COSMOTE TV co-productions. COSMOTE TV supports the Aegean Film Festival for the 5th consecutive year as a great sponsor, while the winter event is also organized with the co-production of the municipality of Patmos, under the auspices of UNESCO, the Greek Tourism Organization (EOT) and the support of, among others, local businesses and hotels.

PARALLEL ACTIONS

2nd Echoes – Tomorrow ‘s Voice program dedicated to the protection of the Aegean Sea and the training of the new generation with a special interest in the exploitation and impact of new technologies. It includes free screenings of documentaries open to the public, speeches and programming of actions taking place throughout the year.
